How Can I Help?
Friday, September 10, 2010

The FHB Foundation is dedicated to helping students learn today and build tomorrow. To achieve its goal of providing young people with an opportunity to realize a career in the home building industry, three primary goals must be met.

    1. Scholarship monies must be obtained to fund students that show a strong interest in the construction industry.
    2. Future Builders of America chapters will be created throughout Florida.
    3. The FBA Training Center will be developed in a camp-like setting for Future Builders of America members to access.

In order to attain these goals you can help in one of three ways:

    1. You can shape the future of the home building industry today and for years to come by making a tax-deductible donation to the Florida Home Builders Foundation.  Become a member of the Million Dollar Founders Circle and ensure the Foundation’s long-term success.  Generous donors are making it possible to provide financial assistance to young people pursuing careers in the construction trades.
    2. Become a sponsor and advisor to a Future Builders of America Chapter in your community. By encouraging your staff to work with these youth, you give the gift of your talents and time.
    3. Leave a legacy by dedicating a generous financial gift to the FBA Training Center Capital Campaign. Building a permanent home dedicated to the future of the home building industry will help to ensure that you are permanently remembered as a true champion of the home building industry.

Planned Giving Opportunities
The Florida Home Builders Foundation is pleased to announce the initiation of a professional planned giving program. This program consists of, Charitable Remainder Unitrusts, Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts, Gifts of Real Estate, Insurance and Bequests.  Cash gifts are welcomed and are deductible up to 100% of their cash value.

In addition, a special opportunity in 2007 has been afforded as a result of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 signed into law by President Bush. If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a donation through a tax-free rollover of any amount up to $100,000 to the Florida Home Builders Foundation.  No charitable deduction is allowed for this gift, however the amount of the distribution would be excluded from your taxable income.  A qualified IRA charitable rollover will also fulfill part or all of your IRA required minimum distribution (RMD) without increasing taxable income.  This important provision expires on December 31, 2007, however, so rollovers can only be made in 2007 at a maximum amount of $100,000 per person per year.   Please consult with your tax attorney or Certified Public Accountant to see if this planned giving option benefits your 2007 charitable giving plans.

Should you have any questions regarding the planned giving program and its benefits please contact Mr. Emmett Reed at 850-224-4316 extension 56 or via e-mail at ereed@fhba.com.

Remember that the students you help today – whether you are a mentor in the Future Builders of America chapter in your community, a funder of scholarship opportunities, or a contributor toward the permanent home of the FBA Training Center – may become your employee tomorrow. Or perhaps, more importantly, the type of builder or associate that will help carry on the tradition of excellence that you have worked so hard to create.
